GUITAR /
SOLOIST - Popular Music
For an
excellent, (and affordable!) live musician at your wedding, check out Kevin
Danzig (guitarist / soloist). His e-mail is
info@kevindanzig.com, phone
800-409-5040. His groupie, Freda, told me he charges $400 for a south Orange
County wedding, or he'll tag on an extra hundred bucks if he has to travel. We
heard him playing at the Beachfire Grill in Ladera Ranch, and he's wonderful!
He writes songs too, so I'll bet he could create a song for you. Also, he lives
in San Clemente, and if you just need him for a hour, locally, I'll bet he has
some wiggle room in his pricing. Check out his on-line music clips
HERE.
CLASSICAL GUITARIST
I heard Efraim Villalobos at a private function in Mission Viejo, and he's very
good. He charges $150 an hour. Phone 949-487-0158, or cell phone
949-422-2113. He doesn't have a web-site with music clips, but I can vouch for
him.
PIANIST
Yani
Leppanen is a professional pianist (from Denmark or Finland). Contact him on
his cell at 909-263-4877. I think if you have a piano available at your wedding
site, he's quite affordable (the price goes up if he has to bring his own piano!). He's a VERY GOOD pianist - and he tunes, sells, and
refurbishes pianos too.
PHOTOGRAPHY
My daughter Monica provides affordable photography services. Click
HERE
to see her work. She's not a professional, but she has a very good eye -
especially for candid pics. Her camera is a decent Canon EOS Rebel with a
dedicated shoe mount flash. After July 1, she'll have her drivers license and
will book weddings by herself (but she'll charge more then). Also - this
applies only to local Dana Point quickies where I'm officiating for half price -
she'll do the job (before, during, and immediately after the ceremony) for $100.
A bit of
advice - even if you're on a budget, don't ask a friend take the photos to save
some money. For some reason, that's an area where couples try to cut corners,
but a friend doesn't get right in there and shoot photos throughout the ceremony
(they're simply not comfortable getting right in there), and at best you'll have
a nice collection of snapshots - but perhaps you won't have any portraits
suitable for framing. A photographer will cost you between $200 and $20,000.
Hire a photographer that's in your budget.
I don't have
any florists or caterers that I would recommend, but for catering, it seems to
work out nicely if you have your favorite local restaurant cater your party.
You know what their food is like, so you won't be disappointed.
Be careful
when booking your reception at a restaurant...
some restaurants waive the facility cost when you pay for a certain dollar
amount of food and drinks (The Adobe in SJC does that), but other restaurants,
like The Beach House in Dana Point Harbor, add on so many extra charges that it
will make you cry.
